Affordable Hotel

Where do you go when you first arrive in Paris? (If you don’t already have your apartment!)

One of my favorite hotels is HOTEL JEAN-BART, conveniently located between the  Jardin du Luxembourg & rue de Rennes in the 6th. Jean-Bart is a privately owned jewel, on a quiet street opposite a police station. It’s a no-frills spot, but clean & affordable, in an old building with high ceilings. The room price includes French breakfast with fresh croissants, artisan baguettes (they’re not all the same anymore!), juice & great hot coffee. Although you can tell them in advance if you don’t want it, & they’ll deduct from your bill!

If you need tv & cable entertainment, this is not the place for you.  There is an elevator & you have the old European choice between en suite (full bathroom) or the cheaper option with sink only & communal showers. Great for people on a budget; not so great if you’re looking for quiet luxury. Around €55-75/ night, breakfast included.

There’s a local boulangerie (bakery) & supermarket on the corner. Metro Rennes (line 4) is one block away & there is a big Vélib Vélo (city sponsored bike rental station) on the cross street. Oh. And plenty of shopping nearby too! This is a place where French people actually stay. Book in advance by telephone only.

Thanks. We’ve just begun to hear about your new, exciting tours! Visiting by scooter sounds fun, but a little intimidating… What would you say to the slightly nervous? 🙂
